How you make money
Your interest is calculated each day based on your Savings Account balance. Interest on the Savings Account is credited on the first day of the month for the preceding calendar month. The Chime Savings Account offers you a variable rate of 2% APY¹ and there’s no minimum balance requirement! On top of that, Chime Automatic Savings features help you grow your savings faster: Round Ups Save money every time you make a purchase or pay a bill with your Chime Visa Debit Card. Round Ups automatically round up transactions to the nearest dollar and transfers the Round Up from your Spending Account into your Savings Account. Save When I Get Paid Save When I Get Paid makes it easy to automatically start saving money with every paycheck⁴ so you can achieve your financial goals faster. You can automatically transfer 10% of your direct deposit of $500 or more into your Savings Account.
How Chime makes money
Chime is an app that lets people open fee-free checking and savings accounts with direct deposit and a debit card. Unlike traditional banks that may charge consumers fees left, right, and center, Chime makes money from “interchange.” Every time you use your Chime Debit Card, Visa processes the transaction and charges an interchange fee for the service. Chime gets a percentage of that interchange fee every time you use your Chime Debit Card, which means they never have to charge you those unnecessary fees to run their business. It’s a win-win for everyone!
They have no fees to sign up, no overdraft(up to $100), no monthly or service fees, no minimum balance fees, no transaction fees, and no card replacement fees either. They do charge one fee ($2.50) when you get cash from either an over the counter withdrawal, or an out-of-network ATM that is not part of Chime’s fee-free network of 38,000+ ATMs.
Is it safe?

Chime is built on the same cloud infrastructure that is relied upon by other leading tech companies, government organizations, and financial institutions to help ensure they are able to limit downtime and their members can reliably access the app. Chime is a financial technology company, not a bank.
